The new Surface Book is quite successful equipment in terms of specifications. As befits modern equipment, hardware repair can be very complicated.
Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 may not be a revolution on the business laptop market, but it certainly is an interesting proposition for those looking for an efficient and compact device. Those interested in a possible repair of the equipment will rather have mixed feelings.
Surface Laptop 3 now also in 15-inch size
The new Surface Laptop comes in two versions – in addition to the 13.3-inch, we also have a 15-inch. The device has a great screen, compact design and long battery life (with fast charging option). The new keyboard and enlarged touchpad are also important.
The 15's specification looks quite promising, because the AMD Ryzen 5 3580 or Ryzen 7 3780U processor is under the hood (this is a specially designed system for Surface Laptop 3). In addition, there are 8 or 16 GB of RAM and a SSD with a capacity of 256GB, 512 GB or 1 TB.
Repairing Surface Laptop 3 15 is not the easiest
IFixit checked Microsoft's new 15-inch laptop for repairs.
Access to the inside of the computer is not complicated, just unscrew a few screws and lift the keyboard cover. This is one of those aspects that has improved a lot compared to its predecessors.
The possibility of replacing the SSD disk deserves praise. Cooling maintenance should not be too complicated either.
The situation is worse for major repairs. The 15-inch Surface Laptop 3 has difficult access to the screen and motherboard, and the battery is virtually non-replaceable.
The editors rated Repair of Surface Laptop 3 15 out of 5 on a 10-point scale. It is certainly a significant improvement over previous versions (the first model was practically irreparable – it gained 0 points), but more complicated works will be difficult or even impossible in home conditions.
