Microsoft Surface Pro X and Surface Pro 7: the premiere of compact laptops

By | October 2, 2019

Microsoft decided to surprise us and presented two versions of the Surface Pro laptop – with ARM processor and Intel Core. The equipment will soon go on sale, but you have to take into account the considerable expense.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 and Surface Duo are not the only new features that appeared at the #MicrosoftEvent conference. The manufacturer has also prepared new versions of the compact Surface Pro – suitable for people looking for a modern 2-in-1 laptop.

Microsoft Surface Pro X – laptop with ARM processor

Microsoft Surface Pro X

Surface Pro X is the thinnest, lightest and most powerful laptop in its class. The device has been equipped with a 13-inch PixelSense screen with a resolution of 2880 x 1920 px with an attached keyboard (must be purchased separately). Of course, it could not do without thin screen frames.

We are dealing here with a 2-in-1 type construction that is easily converted into a tablet. An interesting fact may be the fact that the Surface Slim Pen has been hidden between the screen and the keyboard (this one offers even better possibilities than the previous models). The housing has two USB Type-C ports. However, there is no standard USB and audio connectors.

The device drives the Microsoft Surface SQ1 processor – this is an 8-core ARM chip that was designed in cooperation with Qualcomm. The manufacturer boasts that SQ1 is the most efficient unit of this type for laptops (the graphic system itself offers 2 TFLOPS of computing power). Noteworthy is also the possibility of replacing the SSD media (available configurations include capacities 128, 256 and 512 GB).

Microsoft promises 13 hours of battery life and a quick charge function (80 percent in less than an hour). In addition, LTE connectivity is provided. It is 7.3 mm thick and weighs 774 grams.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 finally with a USB type C port

Surface Pro 7 is the successor to the Surface Pro 6 model, but at first glance we won't see too many changes here. We are still dealing with a 12.3-inch PixelSense screen. The USB 3.0 port and – finally – USB type C (which is also responsible for charging the equipment) are led out on the housing. You can also buy a Surface Pen and a Signature Type Cover (in new color versions).

The changes also include components, because the manufacturer used the latest Intel Ice Lake processors – available configurations include a 2-core model Core i3 or a 4-core Intel Core i5 or Core i7. In addition, 4 – 16 GB of RAM and a SSD with a capacity of 128 GB – 1 TB are provided. The laptop weighs 775 grams and the case is 8.38 mm thick.

Microsoft Surface Pro X and Surface Pro 7 – prices and availability

Surface Pro 7 will be available from October 22 for the price from $ 749, and Surface Pro X from November 5 included from $ 999. Prices are not among the lowest, and we are talking about the most basic configurations that will not belong to the performance demons.

Surface Pro 7 Type Cover

Microsoft has accustomed us that the add-ons must be purchased separately. It is similar this time. The Surface Slim Pen costs another $ 145, and the Surface Pro X Type Cover $ 140 (included for $ 270). Surface Pro 7 Type Cover costs $ 130 (standard version) or $ 160 (with alcantara surface).
